Why Implement a TMS Series - Part 3

TMS SaaS solutions and five reasons why you should seriously consider them

In part 1, we discussed the basics of a TMS, and in part 2, we focused on the main benefits derived from a TMS implementation that you can use to build your business case for a TMS at your organization.

Today, we will focus on one of the current trends of the market: SaaS TMS solutions.

SaaS stands for Software as a Service. According to Gartner, the current trend is for supply chain managers and organizations to look for a SaaS cloud-based TMS solution. A SaaS TMS is a single-instance, multi-tenant environment where all supply chain partners are connected and collaborate in a secure online environment.

SaaS TMS makes the solutions more accessible and affordable to a broader number of businesses, including the medium- to small-sized organizations.

There are several reasons to opt for a SaaS solution instead of a highly-customized one:

1.    Lower costs and quicker ROI

A SaaS solution is the less expensive option to implement a TMS. Forget about substantial maintenance costs and lengthy and potentially risky implementations.

A SaaS TMS also accelerates the ROI of the business, with shorter implementation cycles and faster adoption and usage of the tool. Within a few weeks, you may be able to start improving your logistics flows.

2.    Security and updates

SaaS TMS vendors ensure a high level of security for their applications and their customers’ data. They perform regular backups, ensuring your data will never get lost.

Regular updates also guarantee the optimal performance of the tool, with the latest releases and technologies at your fingerprints.

3.    Scalability and flexibility

A SaaS TMS solution can grow alongside your business and allows you to use the capabilities that you need and quickly adapt when needed.

It also provides a competitive edge for your business, as new features are rolled-out more frequently thanks to the feedback of the user base. You will get capabilities to tackle a new challenge much faster than you would do if you had a fully customized solution for your organization only.

4.    User-friendly and easy-to-use solution

SaaS vendors expect the solution to reach end-users from a wide scale of transportation experience and technology skill levels, so solutions are easy to use and to adopt within supply chain networks without disruptions.

5.    Training and support

With a standardized solution, you get the necessary support and training from the provider to make sure you make the most out of your TMS as soon as possible.

These are only some of the reasons why a SaaS solution should be on the table when considering a TMS.
